About:
To commemorate the 250th anniversary of the First Continental Congress in 1774 and the start of the Second Continental Congress in 1774, the Carpenters’ Company, the nonprofit organization founded in 1724 that owns and operates Carpenters’ Hall, will collaborate with national partners National History Day and Generation Citizen and a network of history and civic organizations in Philadelphia to convene the Young People’s Continental Congress(YPCC).
YPCC is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for participants and an ideal springboard for the celebration of the Semiquincentennial of American independence in 2026.
For five days in July 2024, high school students and their teachers from the 13 original colonies will gather in Philadelphia to explore the history of our nation’s founding and discuss contemporary issues of democracy and social justice. The student delegates will attend daily meetings in Carpenters’ Hall, as well as visit Independence Hall, the Museum of the American Revolution, the National Constitution Center, and the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
My Role: I produced all public media for the program while traveling with the teacher/student pairings throughout Philadelphia. In addition to the daily photography and promotional video, I captured B-roll to fulfill outside media requests from news stations and newspapers across the participant states.
